Mumbai: Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is still the favourite of many Indian cricket fans. He will be remembered for the six 6s that he hit on Stuart Broad's bowling. But Yuvraj has revealed for the first time that he had aspirations to become India's captain.

2007 was a time when the Indian team was in a transitional phase and all senior players were slowly exiting from the team. T20, as a new format was knocking at the door. Speculations were made about team India's new captain. Yuvraj Singh opened up about his feelings on the 22 Yarns podcast with Gaurav Kapur.

Yuvraj said that the team was away from India for 4 months straight and none of the seniors was interested in playing T20 cricket, so there was a window for him to become India's captain.  "So basically India had lost the 50-over World Cup, right? There was quite a lot of turmoil in Indian cricket and then there was a two-month tour of England. There was also a month tour in between South Africa and Ireland. Then there was a month of T20 World Cup, so it was like four months away from home," he said.

"So probably the seniors thought that they need a break and obviously nobody took the T20 World Cup seriously. I was expecting to captain India in the T20 World Cup and then it was announced MS Dhoni will be the captain," Yuvraj added.

Yuvraj also cleared the air that he had no hard feelings for MS Dhoni. It is also reflected in the numerous match-winning partnerships that Yuvraj had with Dhoni. "Obviously. Whoever becomes captain you got to support the guy whether it was Rahul, whether it was Sourav Ganguly, whoever in the future. End of the day you want to be a team man and that's how I was," Yuvraj said.
