West Indies were comfortably placed in the 3rd match of the ODI series at 158 for 2 before rain halted play at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday. Skipper Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat on what seemed like ideal conditions for batting. While the Windies made two changes to their squad , India had an exchange of spinners with Yuzvendra Chahal coming in for Kuldeep Yadav.
Batting first, the Windies Openers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis were in blistering form as they went hammer and tongs against the Indian seamers in the opening power play. The Windies openers got boundaries with effortless ease against the pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Khaleel Ahmed.
The Windies opening pair brought up the Windies 100 in only the 9th over. Just as Lewis was nearing his half ton, leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed him to give India the opening breakthrough. Gayle got to his half ton and looked good for a ton but against the run of play, Khaleel Ahmed scalped him. Gayle scored a whirlwind 72-run knock of just 41 deliveries with 5 massive sixes.
After Gayle's departure, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmeyer stitched a handy third wicket partnership to take the hosts over the 150-run mark. The rain struck the venue in the 22nd over the Windies innings and play was suspended
India are leading 1-0 in the 3-match ODI series after winning the rain-hit second ODI at Trinidad against the Windies by 59 runs via the DLS system. Indian skipper Virat Kohli struck his 42nd ton and Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped 4-wickets to star in India's clinical win.
