Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis gave some of the worst nightmares to the Delhi Capital bowlers in the 2nd Qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 on Friday night. While chasing a modest 148-run total, the duo fired half-centuries, providing a dream start to Chennai Super Kings.

However, there was a moment when the duo fumbled in the first over while stealing a quick single. It could have been a golden opportunity for Delhi to remove one of the openers but they failed to cash upon it.

The Epic Goof-Up:

Watson and Du Plessis survived a terrible mix-up early in the innings. After Watson tapped the ball to point, Du Plessis set off before the former started stuttering. Both of them ran together in both directions at one point while the Delhi fielders threw at both the stumps and missed.

In the end, the two of them managed to run a single.

Making the most of this second chance, the CSK opening pair stitched an 81-run opening stand, releasing pressure from the lower order.

“I reckon we almost ran three there. It was terrible running, and that's not the kind of start you want in a run-chase of a knockout. Thankfully we recovered from that and did pretty well,” said Du Plessis after beating DC by 6 wickets.

CSK will play Mumbai Indians in the final of the ongoing IPL in Hyderabad on Sunday. The two teams have met each other thrice in summit clashes of the tournament earlier with MI finishing on the winning side twice while the Chennai outfit came out triumphant once.
