Australia's thumping win was largely at the back of a stellar bowling spell by their pace spearhead Mitchell Starc and resilient partnership staged by Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey to help Aussies stage a comeback.
Starc's five wickets against the Kiwis meant he became the first ever bowler in World Cup history to pick up three fifers. It was also Starc's second five wicket haul against the Black Caps at the World Cup.
In the 2015 World Cup, Starc had tormented the Kiwis picking up six wickets against them at Auckland in match number 20. This was Starc’s second fifer in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 after the left-arm speedster decimated the Windies to help Australia defeat the Caribbean outfit by 15 runs at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Starc is in red hot form with the ball for Australia and is ruling the leading wicket-takers chart with 24 dismissals to his name. The Aussie speedster has now taken 46 wickets in last two editions of the World Cup.
Khawaja and Carey were instrumental in taking Australia to a modest score of 243/9 in 50 overs. Khawaja and Carey ended up with the scores of 88 and 71 respectively.
