The third ODI between India and Australia in Ranchi turned out to be a splendid game of cricket. Usman Khawaja’s maiden century and skipper Aaron Finch’s 93 powered Australia to a 313-run total. In reply, Indian captain Virat Kohli slammed the second consecutive ton in the series which was his 41st in the One Day Internationals.
The limelight was also grabbed by hometown hero MS Dhoni who may not have played a mighty knock but entertained the local crowd with his on-field antics. Firstly, he affected a lightning fast dismissal to run Glenn Maxwell out and then went past Rohit Sharma in terms of hitting most sixes in ODIs for his country.
Dhoni took the spectators back in time by hitting a humungous six to Nathan Lyon in the 19th over. That massive hit not only thrilled the crowd but also made him the ultimate six-hitting machine for India in ODIs. It was Dhoni’s 217th six for India in ODIs, going past Rohit Sharma’s mark of 216 sixes.
Here’s the video:
Dhoni has a total of 224 sixes in his kitty but seven of those came during his knock of 139 for Asia XI in the 2007 series against Africa XI in Chennai. The former Indian skipper is the only wicketkeeper in history to hit over 200 sixes in ODIs.
Dhoni and Rohit are the only two cricketers who have hit over 200 sixes in ODIs. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi leads the chart with 351 sixes followed by Universe Boss – Chris Gayle who gone big 314 times in his ODI career.
