Umpiring howlers have once again rocked the Indian domestic cricket. The latest incident happened on Day 4 of the Ranji Trophy opening match between Mumbai and Baroda on Thursday. An extremely poor decision by the umpire not only cost Baroda a precious wicket of all-rounder Yousuf Pathan but also sparked a controversy.

What was the incident?

Pathan tried to defend a loopy delivery from Mumbai spinner Shashank Attarde but the ball bounced, struck the batsman’s chest and went straight to the forward short leg fielder Jay Bista. It was a clean catch followed by a huge appeal from Mumbai to which the on-field umpire agreed to raise his finger.

Pathan Loses His Cool

The decision left Yusuf Pathan utterly shocked. Fuming in anger, the veteran batsman denied leaving the field. The square leg umpire walked towards the front umpire for a chat while Pathan was still glued to the crease.

End Of Scene

Finally, Mumbai batter Ajinkya Rahane came into the frame and had a little exchange of words with furious Pathan. While Mumbai stumper dragged Rahane away from the scene, the latter started walking back towards the dressing room.

Later, Baroda were all-out for 224 while chasing the target of 533. Mumbai registered up an easy 309-run win.
