Washington Sundar: Washington Sundar, who batted in the top order in junior cricket, has made his mark as an expert spinner in T20 cricket, but has now expressed willingness to open in Test matches for India in the near future. The 22-year-old player from Tamil Nadu has played four Test matches, one ODI and 31 T20 Internationals for India and has taken 32 wickets so far. He has also scored 312 runs with the help of three half-centuries.

A hand injury during a practice match in July in Britain took away Washington's chance to play in the IPL as well as the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE. He was supposed to return purely as a batsman in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but it turns out that he has not received the necessary approval to play the game due to not being fully fit. According to BCCI policy, he cannot be selected for the New Zealand series without playing a home match.

'It's would be a privilege to play the opener':

In an event, Washington Sundar said, "It would be a privilege for me to play the role of opener for the Indian Test team." He expects Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja to perform brilliantly in the upcoming match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.

"I am eagerly waiting to see Virat Bhai, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja perform.", said Washington. When asked about the semi-finals in the tournament, Washington said, "India has a high chance to win, along with teams like West Indies, England and Australia."
