The news of Rohit Sharma likely to miss an Australia Test might be a bit of a setback for the Indian cricket team and the BCCI who will be looking to win their Test Test in a row Down Under. Notably, a PTI report has suggested that Indian captain could miss one of the first two Tests in Australia.

"There isn’t any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series," a BCCI source told news agency PTI on conditions of anonymity.

With Rohit likely to miss at least one of the first two Tests, it would be interesting to see who will lead the team. Here is a look at a few players who can lead in absence of Rohit.

Virat Kohli

Although Virat Kohli voluntarily stepped down as the captain of the Test team, he is a team man and might not reject the idea of stepping in as the captain of the team for a single Test match for the benefit of the team. For him, captaincy won't be new at all and India would want to bank on his leadership experience if Rohit indeed misses one of the Test matches.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has always been someone who harbours captaincy ambitions. He has even captained India in a Test before and it won't be a suprise if he is called upon to lead India in Australia for a Test match.

Shubman Gill

It might not be a popular idea but Shubman Gill, given that he is already India's T20I vice-captain and hence part of the leadership group could get the chance for one Test match.
