While India entered the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the favourites, Australia spoiled India's Grand Party Plans at the largest crickets stadium in the world as they beat hosts by six wickets to clinch their sixth World Cup title on Sunday. The Aussies who have a nack of winning the big moments produced perhaps their best game as they found a way to keep the mighty Indian batting order in check, restricting them to 240. In response, Australia chased down the target with 42 balls remaining with Travis Head scoring a hundred (137 off 120).
What followed after the game were heartbreaking visuals as Mohammed Siraj was spotted crying inconsolably post India's first defeat in the tournament, unfortunately, on the biggest stage. Rohit Sharma too struggled to keep his tears in check. However, the picture which has gone viral on social media is that of Anushka Sharma hugging Virat Kohli. The 35-year-old was adjudged the Player Of The Tournament award with 765 runs, the most runs ever by a batter in a single edition of tournament but an ICC trophy still eluded him. Kohli appeared heartbroken the picture.
India Had Beatean Australia In Their First Match Of World Cup 2023
It is pertinent to note that India had beaten Australia in their first match of World Cup 2023 which is what had given the hope that they would be able to repeat a similar result. However, that wasn't to be in Ahmedabad as the Men in Yellow were the more clinical team and eventually clinched the match with ease. Other than Head, Marnus Labuschagne scored 58* off 110 while Mitchell Starc scalped 3 wickets as India's wait for a world title continued.
