After facing long delays, the Indian cricket team is scheduled to arrive in India from Barbados on July 4 (Thursday). The Indian team has been facing issues in returning to India after their victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. The Indian team, support staff and their families were scheduled to depart for India on July 30 (Sunday) but remained stranded in Barbados due to the island nation facing the threat of Hurricane Beryl. The closure of the airport and cancellation of flights further extended the Indian team’s stay.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed on Tuesday that arrangements were made for the team to fly back to Delhi from Barbados on Wednesday evening local time, following three days of being stranded in Barbados due to the hurricane. He also mentioned that BCCI secretary Jay Shah was overseeing the situation closely.

“Thank God team India is flying back from Barbados this evening to Delhi. Will be reaching tomorrow evening . They were stuck for three days there because of massive hurricane. BCCI has made all arrangements for safe flight of players back home. BCCI secretary Jay Shah himself is monitoring the whole situation,” wrote Rajeev Shukla in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The BCCI also shared updates on social media, confirming that the T20 World Cup trophy is on its way back to India.

Coming to India's victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, they beat South Africa in the final by seven runs in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 29. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and are the only team to have done so. They won 8 consecutive matches in the T20 World Cup 2024, with one of their matches being washed out. India won a World Cup after 13 long years as the last time they did it was back in 2011 when they won the 2011 ODI World Cup, under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
