Former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, celebrating his 74th birthday on Monday, July 10, and the legendary batsman, who was renowned for his extraordinary stroke play, turned into a commentator post retiring from the game. He is considered as one of the trustworthy voices in the cricketing world and is often spotted trolling cricketers with his sharp sense of humor. One of the instances that has been doing rounds was when the former India player took a dig at India’s skipper Rohit Sharma during IPL 2012.

The incident transpired in a game between the Mumbai Indians and the defunct Deccan Chargers where legendary speedster Dale Steyn bowled a lethal spell to Rohit Sharma and the Indian skipper was clueless as to how to face those balls. Witnessing, Rohit’s struggle against Steyn, Gavaskar came up with a hilarious remark. He started singing lines of an iconic song, sung by legendary Lata Mangeshkar,  'Dhundho Dhundho Re Saajna', in a funny manner in order to mock Rohit Sharma. His fellow commentators, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Gaurav Kapur were shocked to see this side of Gavaskar.

Gavaskar is renowned for his active participation in the commentary box and has been voicing out opinions while closely following the game. Recently in an interview with The Indian Express, the legend was spotted criticizing Rohit Sharma’s captaincy as his leadership skills have not been that effective throughout the course.

"I expected more from him (Rohit. In India it is different, but when you do well overseas that is really the test. That is where he has been a little disappointing. Even in the T20 format, with all the experience of the IPL, hundreds of matches as captain, with a mix of best IPL players not being able to get to the finals has been disappointing."
