Rohit Sharma (162) and Ambati Rayudu (100) struck belligerent centuries to guide India to an imposing 377 for five after the hosts opted to bat. The duo took centre stage after a rare failure by skipper Virat Kohli. Rohit's 21st century came off 137 balls with the help of 20 fours and four hits over the fence, while Rayudu decorated his 100-run knock with eight boundaries and four sixes.
Chasing 378, West Indies simply caved in against India's clinical bowling attack on what was a batting-friendly wicket to be bundled out for a paltry 153 in 36.2 overs.
Rohit and Rayudu’s 211-run stand for the third wicket not only set up India’s victory but also carried the hopes of turning into a bankable ODI partnership. India’s most successful ODI partnership has been of Rohit and Kohli’s. The duo has 7 hundred plus partnerships with four of them being in excess of 200. One of the reasons for their success is the manner in which they construct their innings. That both of them take time and increase the scoring rate rapidly towards the end is one of the USPs of their partnership.
In the fourth ODI against West Indies, the same style was followed with the only difference being in Rayudu’s presence in place of Kohli, who was dismissed for 16 – the lowest score of his in 2018.
These numbers prove that Rohit-Rayudu can become deadlier than Rohit-Kohli
Their effort in the 4th ODI took them in the all-time list of Indian partnerships in ODIs against West Indies. The Rohit and Rayudu 211-run stand was the third best 3rd wicket partnership vs Windies.
