IND-W vs NZ-W 3rd ODI: India Women’s opener Shafali Verma experienced an unfortunate dismissal in the India vs New Zealand series-decider at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on October 29 (Tuesday). Despite the umpire initially giving Shafali not out, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine’s outstanding review call sent the decision upstairs, eventually being overturned, leaving Shafali out for a low score of 12 runs off 11 balls in the series decider.

Shafali’s wicket fell in the fourth over of India’s batting innings after New Zealand had set the target of 233 runs. India got off to a brisk start, with Shafali Verma finding two boundaries early on. However, before she could inflict more damage, New Zealand pacer Hannah Rowe managed to secure Shafali’s wicket.

After maintaining pressure by conceding just two runs in her first three balls, Rowe slightly erred, bowling one down the leg side. Shafali tried to convert it into a boundary by getting some part of the bat to the ball, but it turned out to be the delivery that had her name on it as she was caught out behind, giving New Zealand an early breakthrough.

However, the umpire gave Shafali not out initially but New Zealand wicket-keeper Isabella Gaze's insistence forced Devine take a review, which ultimately showed a tickle on the ultraedge.
