India will be facing South Africa in the three-match T20I series that will commence on September 28. Just after the T20I series, the second-string Men in Blue will lock horns against the Proteas in the ODI series (3 matches) that will take place from October 6. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will leave for Australia to take part in the ICC T20 World Cup. On the other hand, for the 50-over series against South Africa, the Indian team will have a new skipper and coach.

In the absence of regular skippers, Shikhar Dhawan has been given the captaincy role quite a few times. There are chances that the left-hander batsman will again be leading the Indian side in the three-match ODI series against South Africa.  According to ANI, Dhawan will be getting a new vice-captain for this series. The Kerala-based batsman Sanju Samson can become Dhawan’s deputy. Samson led the India A team against New Zealand A where India whitewashed the Kiwis by 3-0.

The 27-year-old has played 7 ODIs so far and if he gets a promotion, it will be only his 8th ODI match. Apart from Sanju, the Punjab batter, Shubman Gill is another contender for Dhawan’s deputy.  He assisted Prithvi Shaw in the 2018 U-19 World Cup that India won. Team India reached Thiruvananthapuram on Monday and hundreds of fans waiting outside the airport gave a rousing welcome to the Indian cricket team after reaching Thiruvananthapuram.

Team India registered a tremendous victory in the T20 series against Australia. The Indian team is now set to play a three-match T20 series with South Africa and the first match will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been rested for this series from the team led by Rohit Sharma.
