Out of form Stuart Binny was on Tuesday axed from the Karnataka squad even as regular captain Vinay Kumar returned after recovering from his injury for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra starting from Wednesday in Mysuru.

Binny has had a torrid time in the current season which started from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored only 1 run and picked up a solitary wicket in two matches. His poor run continued even in the first two matches of Ranji Trophy where his contribution was mere 53 runs in four innings and one wicket.

“Binny is out of form. We don't want his rough patch (from the Vijay Hazare Trophy) to continue throughout the season. He should practise and get back into the groove, and then we will consider him for selection. But he's not out of the system. We will require his services when he's in form.” Karnataka selection committee chairman Raghuram Bhat was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Young batsmen Devdutt Padikal and Abhishek Reddy have been drafted into the squad.

Vijay Kumar, on the other hand, will be back as the Karnataka captain after missing out the first two matches of the season because of an injury.
