Former Indian opener and veteran first-class batsman Wasim Jaffer has added another feather in his cap. The 40-year-old has become the first Indian batsman to reach the 11000-run mark in Ranji Trophy. He reached this feat at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur during Vidarbha’s round three match against Baroda on Wednesday.
Jaffer played a magnificent knock of 153 runs off 284 balls before he lost his wicket in the 107th over. Jaffer smashed 13 boundaries and 2 sixes during his stint at the crease. It was the fourth time that Jaffer became a part of a 300-run partnership in a Ranji Trophy which is also the most by any cricketer.
Well-supported by skipper Faiz Fazal, the duo piled up 300 runs for the second wicket before Jaffer ran himself out and returned to the pavillion.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vidarbha won the toss and decided to bat first. Credit to the great batting effort by skipper Fazal and Jaffer to end the first day in a strong position at 268 for 1. Jaffer remained unbeaten on 131 while Fazal was batting at 124.
The duo resumed the game on Wednesday and went on to add another 45 runs before Jaffer’s historic innings came to an unfortunate end. A few overs later, skipper Fazl fell prey to Baroda’s Lukman Meriwala and lost hhis wicket on 151.
