Former Indian cricketer Ramesh Powar has wished to join back the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) as the head coach of the Mumbai team. He has expressed this wish after quitting his job as the spin coach at the MCA's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) facility.
The post of head coach at MCA is currently vacant after former Indian wicketkeeper Sameer Dighe stepped down from the same recently.
Stating that he is aware of the current situation of the Mumbai cricket, Powar said, “I want to apply for the job. I was there for six-seven months, and I know exactly what the issues in the system are. I am extremely emotionally attached to Mumbai cricket and would like to give something back to it. I know where our team lacks at the moment, and what can be done to rectify it.”
Powar left his job of Mumbai Spin coach after his request to hold a camp for budding spinners was ignored.
Ramesh Powar last represented India in 2007 against Australia. He played his last international Test match in 2007 as well. In ODIs, he has played 31 matches and bagged 34 wickets at a healthy economy of 4.65. Bowling in Test cricket, he played only 2 matches and bagged 6 wickets.
In First-class cricket, he has played 148 matches and took 470 wickets at an economy of 3.02.
