Prithvi Shaw continued his rich vein of form in England and Mayank Agarwal too enjoyed his time in the middle as India A registered a massive 281-run win against Leicestershire, after posting 458 for 4, batting first.
India A's team total is currently the third highest in all List A matches behind Surrey's 496 against Gloucestershire in the 2007 One Day Championship and England's 481 for 6 against Australia in an ODI.
In reply to India's total, Leicestershire were all out for 177 in 40.4 overs with seamer Deepak Chahar picking up 3 for 24 in 6.4 overs. Pacer M Prasid Krishna. spinners Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
Shaw scored 132 off 90 balls and Agarwal ended up with 151 off 106 balls. The duo put on a 221-run opening stand in 26 overs after India A captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first.
Fresh from a scintillating 70 the other day against England’s BP XI, Shaw was in no mood to let his purple match go a begging. Opening the batting along with Mayank Agarwal, the India U-19 World Cup winning captain bludgeoned Leicester bowlers to all parts of the ground.
19-year-old Ben Mike was taken for 45 runs in his first three overs as India A raced to 81 for no loss in the first powerplay.
Shaw reached his century off just 77 balls. His 132-run innings off just 90 balls, was laced with 20 fours and three sixes as the Leicester bowlers appeared clueless in front of him.
When he was looking set for a mammoth hundred, Prithvi brought about his own downfall by trying to manufacture something out of the ordinary. He went for an extravagant loft over extra-over off offie Ateeq Javed and ended up missing it altogether to get bowled for 132.
Mayank Agarwal more than made up for his failure in the previous match by hitting 151. After Shaw’s dismissal, Agarwal took the charge and brought up his century off 86 balls.
Agarwal decided to retire out in order give match practice to the likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.
Shubman Gill took charge after getting to his half century off 41 balls and deposited Adeel Ali for four consecutive sixes in the 42nd over. Unfortunately, the talented right-hander could not follow the openers footsteps and fell for 86 off just 53 deliveries.
Hooda too chipped in with 25-ball 38 to help India A cross the 450-run mark.
