India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant came into the limelight because of his attacking approach and explosive force in limited-overs cricket. However, his willingness to hit the ball 'hard' most of the times has invited cricket Pundits to criticize him for playing irresponsible shots, throwing his wicket away under pressure situations.
After India head coach Ravi Shastri, skipper Virat Kohli had his say on Pant's batting style and his role in the Indian team. Kohli said that the team management didn't want youngster to change his style, but demanded more responsibility from him.
"The only expectation from Rishabh is that he read situations well," captain Virat Kohli said. "We don't expect him to play the way you might be thinking. It is about analysing a situation and dealing with it in your own way."
Shastri, though expressed his confidence in Pant and reiterated that he will learn to correct his shot-selection sooner rather than later and once it happens, 'he could be unstoppable'.
"No one will even think of changing his style," said Shastri. "Like Virat said, reading the situation, match-awareness and shot-selection becomes crucial. If he can fathom that, he could be unstoppable.
"It could take one game, it could take four games. He has played so much IPL cricket, he will learn. It's time now for him to step up and show how devastating he can be."
