After the Test and ODI series, India and the West Indies will now play the three-match T20 series against each other. For the series starting on Sunday, two major changes were made in the Indian team. Regular captain Virat Kohli and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have been rested. Rohit Sharma, who took charge of the team for the T20 home series, said that due to Dhoni's absence, Rishabh Pant now has the best chance to prove himself.

Dhoni’s form as a batsman is constantly falling; Pant has a great chance to prove himself worthy in the shortest form of the game. Senior player Dinesh Karthik has also got another chance to prove himself after the lack of consistency in the performance.

“Dhoni has been such a massive player for us over the years. His experience in the middle, behind the stumps, will be missed but Rishabh and Dinesh are both keepers and they have a great opportunity to show what they are capable of,” Rohit was quoted as saying in the pre-match press conference of the Kolkata T20I.

“Rishabh and Dinesh have done well in T20s, whether it’s their state side (Delhi and Tamil Nadu respectively) or their IPL teams. So it’s a good time to test them. We can’t go into the World Cup with limited resources so you need to keep options at hand,” the 31-year-old added.

India are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against the West Indies. The opening match is slated to take place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
