Rohit Sharma-led Team India triumphed over South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling IND vs SA T20 World Cup 2024 Final in Barbados on Saturday, June 30, securing their latest ICC World Cup trophy after an 11-year gap.


This victory marked India's second T20 World Cup win since their inaugural triumph in 2007 under captaincy of two-time World Cup winner MS Dhoni, and their first major ICC trophy since the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Meanwhile, former India skipper MS Dhoni, who will celebrate his 43rd birthday on July 7, thanked the Indian cricket team for what he called a 'priceless birthday gift'.


"My heart rate was up, well done on being calm, having the self-belief, and doing what u guys did. From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world, a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home. CONGRATULATIONS. thanks for the priceless birthday gift," Dhoni wrote in the caption of his post on Instagram alongside a photo T20 World Cup 2024 winners.






Opting to bat first after winning the toss, team India faced early setbacks with in-form skipper Rohit Sharma getting out for mere 9 runs in just the second over.


Shortly after, Rishabh Pant returned to the Indian dugout for a duck in the same over, and Suryakumar Yadav, one of the best T20I batters in the world, could only contribute 3 runs, putting India in a challenging position early in the match.


Virat Kohli and Axar Patel, together, built a partnership of 72 runs in 54 balls to steady the Indian innings. Virat played a remarkable knock of 76 runs in 59 balls with help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. Whereas, Axar scored 47 runs in 31 balls with help of 1 four and 4 sixes. India scored a decent 176/7.


In response, South Africa were all out for 169/8, losing the summit clash to India by 7 runs. Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh contributed with 2 wickets each, while Axar Patel bagged 1 wicket.
