MS Dhoni Cannot Become India Head Coach: MS Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the best cricket captains in world cricket. His success as a leader, especially in white-ball cricket, speaks for himself while he wasn't that bad in Tests either, having won each of the three ICC Titles in the limited-overs format while also going on to lift the ICC Mace. Given his credentials as a leader, a section of fans believe Dhoni could be the best bet for an India head coach position.

Notably, media reports suggested that current India coach Rahul Dravid was not keen on a contract extension after which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the role. Even though the deadline for the applications has ended and Dhoni hasn't applied, it is pertinent to note that the wicketkeeper-batter cannot be made the head coach right away.

MS Dhoni cannot become India head coach immediately because he has not yet retired from all forms of cricket. The 42-year-old may have last played for India in 2019 but continues to ply his trade for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premeir League (IPL). Thus, Dhoni is not eligible for the role until and unless he hangs up his boots from all forms of Indian cricket. Having said that, Dhoni has previously mentored Team India during their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign.

MS Dhoni To Play In IPL 2025?

As far as Dhoni is concerned, it is not yet clear whether he will play in IPL 2025. He has never announced his retiement in advance- be it quitting Test cricket, T20Is or ODIs. It won't be a surprise if Dhoni does not make himself available as a player next year. CSK supporters, Dhoni admirers and cricket fans at large, however, await an official confirmation.
