Mitchell Johnson Sacked By Cricket Australia After His Column Against David Warner: Report

Mitchell Johnson has not taken back his words despite attracting criticism over his explosive column against David Warner.

In what comes as a massive development from the cricketing world, former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson has been sacked by Cricket Australia (CA). Johnson was scheduled to speak in two public functions but following his explosive column against David Warner, he has been prevented from making the two two guest speaking appearances that were slated to be held in Perth Stadium during Pakistan's Test match against Australia. The same has been claimed in a report carried by News Corp.

It is pertinent to note that Johnson had said that Warner should not be given a hero's send off owing to his involvement in the sandpaper gate incident. In addition, he had said that Warner had been in out of form in the longest format of the game and hence he should not have got the opptotunity to play his final Test match.

It Was In Everyone's Best Interests That Johnson Was Not The Guest Speaker: CA

"Mitchell is one of Australia’s most celebrated bowlers, but we felt on this occasion it was in everyone’s best interests that he was not the guest speaker at the CA functions," a CA spokesman told News Corp on Tuesday (December 19).

Meanwhile, it is being learnt that Michael Hussey has been roped in to replace Johnson in this speaking event.



After attracting criticism for his column, he did mention one part of it which he regretted.

"There is one thing I wasn’t that happy with," Johnson said in is podcast The Mitchell Johnson show.

"I didn’t notice it at the time. I was reading the article and just sort of went with it. The “Bunnings” and the “sandpaper” part of it. Probably distasteful. That was probably something that didn’t need to be said. The reason that (the sandpaper scandal) came up is that I just don’t look at statistics. I look at the whole picture. And I’m not trying to bring up those old things. But someone to get a farewell and to be in that position that he was and what they did back then, that didn’t quite sit right with me, that’s why I brought it up," he added.
