In the 18th match of the Legends Cricket Trophy (LCT), Delhi Devils faced off against the Colombo Lions in the day's first match on March 17 (Sunday). It turned out to be a straightforward victory for Delhi Devils as they defeated Colombo Lions by 42 runs, securing their first win of the tournament.
Delhi Devils opted to bat first after winning the toss against Colombo Lions. This decision proved fruitful as Delhi Devils put up an impressive total of 189-1 in their allotted 15 overs. Opening batsman Morne van Wyk remained unbeaten with a stellar knock of 84 runs off 44 balls, while Ishan Malhotra contributed a solid 40 runs before being dismissed by Malinda Pushpakumara. Captain Ferguson also made a significant contribution with an unbeaten 44 runs off 21 balls, guiding Delhi Devils to a commanding total.
Colombo Lions tried putting up a resilient effort in their innings but could only score 147-6 in their allotted 15 overs. Ben Dunk led the charge for Colombo but perished shortly, contributing 22 runs off 8 balls. Captain Asghar Afghan made a notable contribution with 49 runs off 33 balls, while Thilan Thushara contributed 29 runs off 13 balls. Despite their efforts, Colombo Lions fell short of the target set by Delhi Devils, resulting in a 42-run defeat.
Iqbal Abdulla and Pradeep Sangwan each claimed two wickets for Delhi Devils, contributing to the Lions falling short of their target.
Morne van Wyk was honoured with the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten innings of 84 runs.
