Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener has been appointed as the head of cricket operations for Tripura for the upcoming season, according to an announcement made by the state association on Wednesday. Klusener's role will involve overseeing the state's eight teams across various age groups in both the men's and women's sections, as well as providing guidance and support to the Ranji side. While his exact designation has not been disclosed yet, Klusener is set to arrive in the state capital on Saturday to commence his work, pending the finalization of his contract.

During his initial 20-day stay, Klusener will closely observe and mentor the cricketers, aiming to contribute to their overall development. Tripura Crickey Association (TCA) vice president Timir Chanda revealed that Klusener will be offered a 100-day contract, which is expected to be signed on Sunday. The decision to appoint Klusener came after the TCA sought expressions of interest for a coach earlier this year, with both Dav Whatmore and Klusener initially expressing their interest. However, Whatmore later withdrew due to personal reasons, while Klusener remained committed to working with the local cricketers in Tripura.

Chanda expressed optimism about the positive impact Klusener's vast international experience will have on the players and emphasized that the local cricketers are excited to collaborate with him. Klusener, a left-handed pace-bowling all-rounder renowned for his aggressive batting style, represented South Africa in 49 Test matches and 171 ODIs. He has previously served as a batting coach for South Africa and Zimbabwe, and also took on the role of head coach for Afghanistan during the 2021 T20 World Cup.

The appointment of Klusener reflects Tripura Cricket Association's commitment to enhancing the cricketing infrastructure and nurturing the talents of their players. By bringing in a coach of Klusener's caliber and experience, the association aims to provide valuable guidance and mentorship to the cricketers, enabling them to grow and excel in the sport. With Klusener's arrival imminent, the cricketing fraternity in Tripura eagerly anticipates the positive transformation and development that he will bring to the state's cricketing ecosystem.
