South Africa have bagged the ongoing three-match ODI series against England with a match to go, having won the first two matches of the series. They sealed the series when they clinched the second ODI by 5 wickets on Sunday (January 29) at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. While the visitors had posted a more than competitive score of 342/7 in 50 overs with the help of half-centuries from Jos Buttler and Harry Brook which turns out to be enough on most days, the hosts had other ideas.
Led by captain Temba Bavuma's 109 off 102 balls, the Proteas reached their target quite comfortably in the end with five balls to go. However, it was one incident from the match which has now gone viral on social media. During the 19th over of the South African run chase, England's Jos Buttler and South Africa's Rassie Van Der Dussen were involved in a bit of a heated exchange.
The conversation between the two was caught on the stump mic and later made its way online. "I am trying to get to the ball," Buttler can be heard in the video. "I saw," Dussen replied.
The England captain then said: "What's your problem Rassie. It's not all about you all the time. I am allowed to try and catch the ball."
The exchange got so intense that the umpires had to intervene before the match could resume.
As far as the match is concerned, the Three Lions were asked to bat first and even though they did had their moments of struggle early, they later made the most of the brilliant conditions and posted what was certainly going to be a tough ask for the hosts.
In response, Bavuma and Quinton de Kock helped South Africa off to a brisk start ensuring the scoreboard read 77/0 in 12 overs. In a proper team effort, all Protean batters chipped in ensuring that the required run rate was always within reach. It was fitting that David Miller, who has reinvented himself as a finisher, finished off things in style for the home team, hitting a six off Chris Woakes to win the match for his side.
