England's seasoned Test captain Joe Root became a father for a second time on Wednesday as his wife was blessed with a baby girl. The England batting mainstay took to Instagram to share a picture of his newborn daughter Isabella. Root also wished his national team good luck for the opening Test against West Indies in Southampton.

“Good luck boys @englandcricket We will be watching and supporting you all the way! #cricketisback,” Root wrote along with the photograph on his Instagram account.

Root missed out on playing the first of the 3-match Test series against the Windies in-order to be with his wife who was expecting the couple's second child. In Root's absence, English all-rounder Ben Stokes is leading the hosts in the Test series opener against the Windies, which got underway yesterday.

The opening Test between England and West Indies got underway at the Ageas Oval at Hampshire on Wednesday, marking the return of international cricket after a 4-month long break induced by Coronavirus pandemic. With rain playing spoilsport for most part of Day 1, England ended the day at 35/1 at stumps.

Root will join the team soon and will get back to donning the skipper's hat in the second Test match. It is the start of a busy summer for the English team as they take on Pakistan and Ireland after the 3-match series against West Indies.
