BCCI's Jay Shah To Be New ICC Chairman: Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is set to replace Greg Barclay as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), according to a report by The Age. Barclay, the current ICC chairman, opted out of seeking a third term on August 20 (Wednesday). It's worth noting that Barclay's tenure will end on November 30, 2024.
According to The Age, Jay Shah of India will become the new ICC chairman, succeeding Greg Barclay, who stepped down amid a USD 3 billion dispute between the ICC and its major broadcast rights holder, Star. However, it is yet to be seen whether Jay Shah will contend for the race to be the new ICC chairman. August 27 is the last date before which the current directors must submit their nominations.

“Two sources with knowledge of discussions, speaking on condition of anonymity because negotiations are confidential, confirmed the move late on Tuesday night,” report adds further.
Greg Barclay Opts Out Of Third Term As ICC Chairman
A day earlier, the current ICC Chair Greg Barclay announced he will not seek a third term and will step down at the end of November. Barclay, who was first appointed in November 2020 and re-elected in 2022, confirmed his decision in an official ICC release.
"ICC Chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022," an official release by the ICC quoted.
Under ICC rules, the chairman's election requires a majority of nine out of 16 votes (51%). Current directors must submit nominations for the next chair by August 27, 2024. If multiple candidates are proposed, an election will be held, with the new chair's term starting on December 1, 2024.
