The Ireland-based batter Harry Tector scripted history after he surpassed legends like Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, and Virat Kohli in the latest ICC ODI rankings. He has got the highest rating points by an Irish cricketer to make it into the top 10 of ODI rankings for batters.
The young batter played his career-best innings of 140 during the second game against Bangladesh in Chelmsford. The 23-year-old ended up the series as the highest run-maker with 206 runs. This outstanding performance helped Tector rise a huge 72 rating points, helping him seal the 7th spot among batters. The talented Irish bater is followed by Virat Kohli, de Kock, and Rohit.
Pakistan star batter Babar Azam is leading the list of ODI rankings for batters with South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen second on the list with 777 points, followed up by Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, who have sealed third and fourth spot. The fifth place is occupied by India’s young batter Shubman Gill is fifth with 738 points. Virat Kohli with 719 points and India's captain Rohit with 707 points have also made it to the top 10.
Ireland’s Tector rating point of 722 is the highest for an Ireland male batter in ODI cricket. Earlier, Eoin Morgan got 712 points in 2019 but then he was representing England that time.
Skipper Andy Balbirnie also lauded Rector’s heroics and said the sky is the limit for him.
"He's just got all the attributes to go on and be one of the greats of Irish cricket and I hope that we can help him on his way, and he continues to put in scores for us," Balbirnie said.
"The more runs he gets for us, the better place we're going to be."
