The road to ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 for Men in Blue will kickstart with a three-match One-Day-International series between India and West Indies, starting from Thursday (July 27) at the Kennington Oval in Barbados. Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are on the cusp of massive milestones in ODIs, which they possibly might achieve during India vs West Indies ODI series.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have shared a partnership of 4998 runs in ODI format. The duo needs to score just two more runs while batting together to complete partnership of 5,000 runs in 50-overs format. If this happens, the batting pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will become the pair to complete 5,000 runs partnership in lowest number of matches in history of cricket.
Rohit and Virat have so far scored 4998 runs in 85 ODIs as partners, including 15 century partnerships in ODIs and more than 18 times there has been a partnership of more than fifty runs between the two players in ODIs.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli needs to score just 102 runs more in the three-match IND vs WI ODI series to complete 13,000 runs in ODIs, which will make him the fifth batter and second from India after Sachin Tendulkar to attain this milestone. Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) is the highest run-getter in history of ODI cricket, followed by Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Ricky Ponting (13,704), Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) and finally Virat Kohli (12,898).
If and when Kohli completes 13,000 ODI runs, he will break Sachin's record (321 innings) cricket by becoming the fastest batter to ever achieve this feat. Till date, Virat Kohli has played only 265 innings in ODIs.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, is 175 runs away from completing 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. The Indian skipper can also become the second-fastest batter after Virat Kohli (213 ODIs and 205 innings) to score 10,000 ODI runs and also has a chance to beat legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is currently 2nd fastest to score 10,000 ODI runs, having achieved this in 266 ODIs and 259 innings.
