The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, on Saturday, May 24, announced India's squad for upcoming Test series against England. In a major decision, star batter Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian Test team, taking over the role from Rohit Sharma.

With this, Gill becomes the fourth youngest to lead the national side in the longest format of the game.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, currently battling a dip in form, has been named the vice-captain of the Indian Test team. Despite his recent struggles - both during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia and the ongoing IPL - the selectors have shown faith in Pant's proven track record in the longest format.

Shami and Iyer Miss Out

Pacer Mohammad Shami and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer have not been included in the squad for the England Test tour. While Shami's below-par performance in IPL 2025 may have contributed to his omission, Iyer's exclusion is surprising given his impressive run in the tournament.

Big Break for Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair

Sai Sudharsan, the leading run-scorer of IPL 2025, has earned his maiden call-up to the Indian Test team. The Gujarat Titans batter has amassed 1957 runs in 29 First-Class matches, including 7 centuries and 5 half-centuries. Karun Nair, who has been in fine form in domestic cricket, makes a return to the Test squad after a gap of seven years.
