After whitewashing the Windies 3-0 in the recently concluded T20I series, Team India take on Windies in the first match of the three-match ODI series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana later in the evening. The match is scheduled to commence at 7 pm (IST).

India would look to put behind their disappointment in the ICC World Cup and carry forward their good form in the T20 series  against the Windies into the ODIs.

The Indian ODI squad will be bolstered by the return of seasoned campaigners in Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammad Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal, all of whom were rested in the T20 series against the Windies. On the other hand, the Windies shall be witness the return of Chris Gayle, Shai Hope and Jason Holder into the ODI team.

If one were to go by the head to head record between the two teams,it is pretty evenly matched with Windies winning 62 out of the 127 ties, while India coming out winners in 60 of those encounters.

Let’s take a look at Team India’s predicted XI for the India vs West Indies 1st ODI

Rohit Sharma

Opener Rohit Sharma has been in terrific form ever since his purple patch at the 2019 ICC World Cup, where he was the tournament's highest run scorer. He also played crucial innings in the T20I series against West Indies and he will be looking for similar performances against in the ODIs too. After being rested in the third T20I, Rohit must be raring to take the field on Thursday.

Shikhar Dhawan

Opener Shikhar Dhawan who had a lackluster T20I campaign and he will look to turnaround the same in the ODI series. Dhawan is still recuperating from the injury he sustained in the World Cup game against Australia. Dhawan need would be raring to go for India in the ODIs and find his rhythm soon.

Virat Kohli

Skipper Virat Kohli who dint have the best of T20s seris by his lofty batting standards got back into some kind of form with a well compiled haf ton in the third T20I. Kohli, who has a brilliant ODI record against West Indies would look to pile on the runs and contribute to his team's cause with the ball all through the series. The Indian skipper had a decent outing in the World Cup, notching up five half centuries against Men in Blue at the showpiece event.

KL Rahul

The return of Shikhar Dhawan at the opening slot has pushed back KL Rahul to the number four slot. Rahul was in pretty decent form in the World Cup and contributed at the top of the order with Rohit Sharma. India would look forward to Rahul to end their woes at the number four position and

Shreyas Iyer

Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been given a chance to prove his mantle at the international stage after performing exceedingly well done well for his IPL side and India A. Iyer has been in the scheme of things for Team India and should be given a longer run in the one day international team.

Rishabh Pant

Wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is being looked as the number one glovesman for India in the ODIs and he needs to deliver with the bat lower down the order. The hard hitting batsman finally showed glimpses of his hitting ability after slamming an unbeaten fifty to take the team over the line.

Ravindra Jadeja

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to play the spin-allrounder's role ahead of Kedar Jadhav. Jadeja adds value to the team with his superlative fielding and handy spin. Jaddu was in good form with the bat for India in the limited appearances he made for the team in the ICC World Cup.As for Jadhav, he is likely to get a chance as the tournament progresses.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Fast-bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar will once again spearhead the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, despite playing in all three T20Is. 'Bhuvi' was in superlative form in the 20 series and proved to be QUITE economical as well. The right-arm pacer will want to continue the same in the ODI series as well.

Mohammed Shami

Fast-bowler Mohammed Shami who was rested for the T20I series, will be a major part of the Indian seam attack in the one day internationals. Shami could be lethal with the new ball upfront in conditions conducive to seam. Shami can be pretty handy with the old ball with his ability to reverse swing the ball.

Navdeep Saini

After a stellar start to his international career in the T20I series, fast-bowler Navdeep Saini is all set for his ODI debut. He has been in rich wicket-taking form in T20 series, although he needs to bring down his economy rate. The team management will want him to have a good run in the squad to test him further.

Yuvzvendra Chahal

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal comes back into the Indian ODI set-up after being rested for the T20I series and he will be keen to start where he left off before the World Cup. Chahal regarded as one of the best spinners in white ball cricket and he is likely to be included in the side ahead of Kuldeep Yadav.
