The hosts may have had dominated the first two days of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Visakhapatnam but the third day belonged to Proteas opener Dean Elgar and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.
The duo brought up their respective centuries, exploiting the Indian attack throughout the first two sessions on day 3. In fact, they stitched a precious 164-run stand for the sixth wicket before Jadeja removed Elgar on 160 in the 100th over. 9 overs later, Ashwin struck with a non-turner to rattle De Kock’s stumps. The latter ended up scoring 111 runs off 163 deliveries but entered an elite club of South African cricketers. De Kock accumulated the second-highest score by a Proteas player in his 1st Test innings in India. The 26-year-old went past the likes of Alviro Petersen, Neil McKenzie, Zander de Bruyn to reach this feat. Former batsman Andrew Hall tops the list with the score of 163 that he slammed in 2004 in Kanpur. Here’s the complete list of South African batsman who scored big in their 1st Test innings against India

Andrew Hall 163 Kanpur 20/11/2004
Quinton de Kock 111 Vizag 2/10/2019

The morning session began with some superb show from the visiting skipper Faf du Plessis and Elgar after the dismissal of Temba Bavuma. The pair posted a fifth-wicket partnership of 115 before the captain was dismissed by Ashwin. That wasn’t the end o trouble for the guests. De Kock then joined Elgar at the centre and they humiliated the hosts together until Jadeja claimed his 200th Test wicket.
