Virat Kohli has hit peak form at the perfect time, smashing an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan and following it up with 84 runs in the semi-final against Australia.
Throughout the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament, Kohli has been rewriting record books, and as India gears up to face New Zealand in IND vs NZ Champions Trophy Final on Sunday (March 9), he stands on the verge of breaking three major records.
1. Most Runs in Champions Trophy history
The record for most runs by a player in Champions Trophy history is currently held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle (791 runs). Virat Kohli is second with 746 runs in 17 matches (16 innings). If he scores 46 more runs, he will surpass Gayle to become the highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history.
2. Most Catches by an Indian in Champions Trophy
Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly holds the record for most catches by an Indian in Champions Trophy history with 12 catches in 13 matches. 'Chase master' Virat Kohli is close behind with 11 catches in 17 matches. One more catch will make him equal Ganguly, while two catches will break the record.
3. Most Runs Against New Zealand in ODIs
Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record with 1,750 runs in 42 matches. Kohli is second with 1,656 runs in 32 matches. A 95-run innings in the final will see Kohli surpass Tendulkar to become the highest run-scorer against New Zealand in ODIs.
