After a period of resistance by New Zealand batters on Day 1 of the third Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the hosts have got back into the match with two wickets in the same Ravindra Jadeja over. While India had restricted the Kiwis to 72/3 in 20 overs, with Akash Deep getting rid of Devon Conway and Washington Sundar getting the better of Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra, there was a good partnership between Will Young and Daryl Mitchell that seemed to take the game away from the hosts.

Young and Mitchell added 87 runs off 151 deliveries and were looking set for even more with Young batting on 71. However, Jadeja provided the breakthrough for India with a fuller ball which drew the outside edge off the bat of Young and went straight to first slip where Rohit Sharma pouched a catch. One brings two they say and that is what seemed to have happened in humid conditions in Mumbai as new batter Tom Blundell was deceived by the left-arm spinner who got one ball to turn across him to rattle the stumps.

Jadeja's double-wicket over meant that the BlackCaps scorecard which was once 159/3 became 159/5 in a matter of a few deliveries from Jadeja.

No Bumrah In India's Playing 11

Notably, India are playing the third Test against New Zealand without Jasprit Bumrah. While India captain Rohit said that Bumrah was not well, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later revealed that Bumrah is recovering from a viral illness. Meanwhile, New Zealand are also without Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee with Ish Sodhi and Matt Henry replaceing the duo.
