Virat Kohli-led India will lock horns against hosts England in Match 38 of the 2019 ICC World Cup at the Edgbaston cricket ground Birmingham in a short while from now.
England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first at Edgbaston. Jason Roy comes back into the English playing eleven at the expense of James Vince.
Seamer Liam Plunkett comes into the squad in place of spin all rounder Moeen Ali. Meanwhile Rishabh Pant will be making his World Cup debut as India left out all-rounder Vijay Shankar from their playing eleven.
Eoin Morgan: We are going to bat first. Tactical move to bring in Plunkett in place of Moeen. There could be a bit more pace and bounce. We are rejigged and reset as a team.
Virat Kohli: "Never a problem.. Love chasing. But honestly we would have batted first today. We haven't chased after the first game in the tournament, so it's a good challenge for us. We haven't really focused on the opposition in this tournament, that's why we have been consistent. We do have one change.
Vijay Shankar has a toe niggle, Rishabh Pant is in. He brings in a lot of fearlessness. He has a small boundary. Once he gets to 20, then he's unstoppable. To be honest I haven't seen what's been happening outside. But I do believe the Pakistani fans will be supporting us, which is a rare thing (smiles)."
Here is the playing eleven for both the teams
India (Playing XI): Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni(w), Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah
England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w), Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood
