ICC Test Rankings: Ajinkya Rahane Jumps To This Position Post His Heroics In WTC Final 2023

Australians sealed the top three spots in the rankings as  Steve Smith and Travis Head followed Marnus Labuschagne after smashing a hundred in the  WTC final win against India at The Oval.

According to the latest ICC Test Rankings, India’s Ajinkya Rahane has jumped to the 37th spot after making a comeback in the Indian Test team for the WTC final 2023. Shardul Thakur on the other hand, stood up to 94th rank among batters, and veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remained on the top spot among the Test bowlers list.

Australians sealed the top three spots in the rankings as  Steve Smith and Travis Head followed Marnus Labuschagne after smashing a hundred in the  WTC final win against India at The Oval. Though India lost the game by a huge margin of 209 runs, Rahane was the only one who made a mark with his willow as he made 89 and 46 in both innings while Shardul Thakur also collected a fifty in the first innings. Evidently, because of their brilliant performances in the WTC final, both Rahane and Thakur got a heavy jump in the ICC Test Rankings.

Even though Ashwin missed out on playing the WTC final 2023 against Australia, he managed to be the top-ranked Test bowler while his colleague Ravindra Jadeja is at the ninth spot.

India’s stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have sealed the 12th and 13th spots respectively. Star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant who is still recuperating from a horrifying car crash last year is the top-ranked Indian who is at 10th position in the rankings.

Australians continued to occupy the top spots in the list as Labuschagne hold the number one position with 903 rating points followed by Steve Smith at the second spot after he made 121 and 34 in the WTC 2023 final against India. The other century maker Travis Head also scored 163 and 16 in both innings and clinched his career-best third position.

The Indian team continued their poor run in ICC tournaments as they lost the WTC final 2023 against Australia by 209 runs. This is not the first time India lost the summit clash as they got outplayed by New Zealand in WTC final  2019-21.  The last time India won the ICC trophy was under MS Dhoni's captaincy when they sealed ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and after that, it has been 10 long years since India won any ICC titles.
