Former South Africa player AB de Villiers said he wants to stick with Aiden Markram as the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, despite a lot of comments that Pat Cummins might take the captaincy onus after joining the team during the IPL Auction 2024.

Australian stalwart Pat Cummins made headlines when he was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 20.50 crore during the IPL 2024 auction. After getting this deal, he not only became the most expensive player but also stood in the queue for the captaincy post.

Recently, Cummins guided Australia to the World Cup title and he brings a lot of experience. Since SRH coach Daniel Vettori gave a clue of change in captaincy, fans and cricket pundits have been weighing in on who should be the skipper of SRH in IPL 2024. Commenting on the same, AB de Villiers came up with his school of thought on his YouTube channel and said that he would stick with Markram.

"I will still go with Aiden Markram as captain. I've played with this guy before. He's got a very, very good leadership brain on his head. I think he'll do better this season, and that's it. And as well. And it has got a very good squad to work with," said De Villiers.

"I don't think the eight overseas players that you're talking about being big stars is a problem. I think they have a very, very good squad, very well-balanced. I think they're gonna make the knockouts this year. I want my calls to go all the way and be there at the back end of the IPL," said De Villiers.

Earlier during the IPL auction, SRH made some crucial shopping as they also acquired Travis Head for Rs 6.8 crore. The Hyderabad-based franchise finished last in the 2023 edition and now will be looking to perform well in the upcoming edition.
