ICONIC! as the debutant broke several records with his legendary spell against the Caribbeans at the 'Home of Cricket'. The right ar fast-bowler registered the figures of 12/106 is now officially the best bowling figures by a debutant in Test cricket this century. The 26-year old goes past the record of Prabath Jayasuriya, who registered the figures of 12/177 in 2022 against Australia at Galle.
Gus Atkinson has now registered the third-best bowling figures by an Englishman on debut. John Ferris (13/91) and Frederick Martin (12/102) are now the only ones ahead of him. This was not the only record attained by Gus Atkinson, as he is now officially the best-ever debutant bowler at Lord's Cricket Ground. What an occasion and what a venue for the English bowler to attain the record, as his name is now etched in the history books at the 'Home of Cricket'.
Here's What Gus Atkinson Said After Being Awarded The Man Of The Match Award
"It's been an incredible week. First of all, I want to say thanks to Jimmy. Playing in his last Test is just incredible and to do well has been incredible too. Growing up, I would come here at Lord's to watch him bowl. In this Test, I was standing at mid off and saw him running in and thought, 'I have seen this on TV plenty of times.' It was amazing."
"The good thing about this group is that you are allowed to come in and be the player you want to be. To do well has been a fantastic feeling. Seeing Pope for England has made me come out here and play for England. I needed a few red balls games. I struggled with my rhythm a bit in the first few games for Surrey this season. A lot of people asked me whether it was the right decision? I can say it was the right decision now."
