England batter Ben Duckett scripted history during the Three Lions' ongoing one-off Test match against Ireland at the iconic Lord's Stadium in London. Notably, the England opener smashed 182 off 178 balls as the hosts posted 524/4 before declaring their first innings and asking the Irish side to come and have a bat again after the visitors were bowled out for 172 in the first innings. With his superb knock, Duckeet shattered one amazing record that belonged to none other than the legendary batter Don Bradman. Duckett went past the Australian icon in the list of the fastest 150 scored at Lord's.
Bradman had achieved the fastest 150 here, 93-years ago which was now broken by the English left-handed batter. In addition, he broke another long-standing record by becoming the first batter since 1924 to score a century before Lunch in a Test match at Lord's. This was Duckett's second Test match hundred but his maiden on home soil. The 28-year-old was elated by his performance but knows he has to continue his good work if he has to cement his place in the Playing 11.
"A hundred at Lord’s is special. I know everyone says it, but it hasn’t really sunk in yet," Duckett said at the end of Play on 2 as quoted by Sky Sports.
"Batting with Ollie Pope was a breeze, really enjoyable to be at the other end watching him play," he added.
"It has been a pretty crazy journey for me. I have only played (Tests) abroad, so even fielding here, soaking up the atmosphere, and then scoring a hundred is what I have dreamt of. I am so happy I managed to get there," he said.
"[This summer] is only going to get harder, it’s going to be a tougher summer than this week. For me personally, runs is form and that’s what I’ve been trying to do at the start of the summer for Notts and taking it to here.)," Duckett concluded.
