The England Cricket Board (ECB) awarded paceman Jofra Archer a Test and White ball contract following his sensational international debut. Despite playing throughout the World Cup 2019, Archer has been exceptional with the ball this summer in the Ashes 2019. The 24-year-old bagged his second 6-for of the series during the fifth and final Ashes at the Oval to become the first English bowler to take two 6-fores in the same Ashes series since Ian Botham in 1981.
While Archer got his first central contract, Rory Burns and Joe Denly were too awarded a white-ball contract. On the other hand, veteran Moeen Ali, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett and David Willey lost their Test contracts.
"Test specialists and those playing in all forms of the game will have their salaries paid in full by the ECB. From 1 February 2020, the start of the ECB 2020 Financial Year, those on White Ball contracts will move from receiving a supplement on top of their County salary, to having their salaries paid in full by the ECB as per Test contracted players.
"Under the structure, players in both formats receive a 'ranking' based on their performances on the pitch, as well as a number of other factors, including off-field contribution, fielding and fitness. Those rankings then correlate with the level of remuneration," a statement by Sussex Cricket read.
