It was an unusual day in the field for Dinesh Karthik. He first dropped a simple catch of Tim Seifert when he was on 73. A few overs later he had more than made up for the lapses by hanging on to a brilliant catch in the long-on boundary to send back New Zealand debutant Daryl Mitchel. But by the time New Zealand ended their innings he dropped another catch, this time of Ross Taylor
In the last ball of the 15th over Mitchell went for the loft down the ground, he did make a decent connection but Karthik at long on had other ideas. He first set himself nicely under the ball and then timed his jump to perfection to grab the ball. The momentum, however, took him over the ropes but he was smart enough to let the ball go on time, come back inside the boundary, dive full length and hold onto the catch.
The wicket came after New Zealand keeper Tim Seifert played a blazing innings of 84 off 43 balls to get his team off to a flying start.
Seifert, however, got one life when was on 73. It was Karthik who dropped a simple catch off Krunal Pandya’s bowling in the 11th over.
Thankfully for India, Seifert could not much damage as he was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed after adding just 11 runs to his total. The same was with Ross Taylor. He was dropped by Karthik in the 18th over when he was on 19 but was out in the next over for 23.
