Fans witnessed an extraordinary inning from India’s batter Virat Kohli in the ongoing fourth Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad. He hammered 186 on Day 4 and guided Team India to a total of 571, giving his team a lead of 91 runs. This match will always be remembered for not just Kohli but also for Shubman Gill.
The Punjab-based batter also scored a terrific century. He repaid the selectors’ faith by getting his second Test hundred. Gill made way in the playing XI in place of KL Rahul who was not scoring runs. Since the WTC final is on the plate, there has been a debate going on as to who will open with skipper Rohit Sharma.
Veteran India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik spoke about the same and reckoned Rahul should be there as the backup option.
"I will see how Rahul feels because KL is not somebody who enjoys keeping in Test cricket because it is a completely different ball game. But I will definitely keep that in the back of my mind. It is an option that is very, very usable if KL is up for wicketkeeping," said Karthik on Cricbuzz.
Karthik further lauded Gill for his outstanding knock and said that he really want to see him play in the WTC final.
"I will definitely go with Shubman Gill, there's no doubt about it. The man's got a hundred in the last Test before the WTC final. You get the feeling that Shubman Gill is in for the long run. He is a long racehorse. He's the one that you want to put your money on and say, 'I want to see him in 2033 still there opening for India'," Karthik added.
Talking about the fourth Test, Virat Kohli got his 28th century in the longest format of the game against Australia and helped India end the innings at 571 runs. In reply, Australia started batting and lost one wicket of the night watchman Matthew Kuhnemann. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne are currently battling and Kangaroos are 73/1 at lunch on the final day of the Test match.
