The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 ended in a massive upset for Team India. Despite playing a dominant brand of cricket and winning ten matches in a row in the lead up to the final, Rohit Sharma & Co. failed to cross the final hurdle losing to Australia in the summit clash. With the hosts expecting a historic third ODI World Cup win, given the way they had been playing in the competition, it was Australia who spoiled India's grand party celebration by defeating India at the Narendra Modi Stadium packed with Indian fans by 6 wickets.

Post Australia's win, a social media user tagged Australian opener David Warner and accused him of breaking a billion hearts. However, Warner's response to it has grabbed eyeballs. Warner first apologised for breaking hearts but then congratulated India for hosting a great tournament.

"I apologise, it was such a great game and the atmosphere was incredible. India really put on a serious event. Thank you all," Warner's post on X (formerly Twitter), in response to a  post by a fan which now stands deleted, read.

6 Indians In ICC's World Cup 2023 Team Of The Tournament

India's dominance in this World Cup 2023 can also be gauged from the fact that as many as six Indians featured in ICC's World Cup Team of the tournament Playing 11. These included captain Rohit Sharma and leading run-scorer of the tournament Virat Kohli. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are the other members from India's squad who made that list but had to be content with the runners up medal in the competition. With an eye on the T20 World Cup next year, it would be interesting to see whether or not Rohit and Kohli opt to be part of the scheme of things in the shortest format.
