Young batters Shivam Chaudhary and Yash Dubey collected brilliant fifties to back the spinners’ performance as Central Zone outplayed North East Zone by eight wickets in a round-robin match of the Deodhar Trophy on Sunday. After choosing to field first, Central Zone restricted North East Zone to just 164 runs in 49 overs. In reply, they chased down the target with the help of a 153-run second-wicket stand between Shivam (85) and Yash (72).
Chaudhary hammered seven fours and two sixes in his 90-ball innings, while Dubey blasted seven boundaries and one maximum in his 91-ball 72-run knock. On the back of this win, Central Zone registered their first victory in four games they played and are placed at the fourth spot in the six-team tournament while North East Zone are at the fifth position with one win and two losses.
North East Zone batters could not find any momentum and were reeling at 7 for two in 6 overs with Aditya Sarwate (3/19), Saransh Jain (2/39), Yash Kothari (2/4) and Karn Sharma (1/34) tormented the batters, sharing eight wickets among them. Shivam Mavi (1/19) and Yash Thakur (1/15) were the other wicket-takers. Batters like Kamsha Yangfo (35), Ashish Thapa (31), Rex Singh (27), and L Keishangbam (24) were able to score some runs for the North Zone.
