BCCI replaced Sanjay Bangar with Vikram Rathour as the batting coach of the Indian cricket team while the bowling and fielding coach – Bharat Arun and R Sridhar – were retained for their respective roles.
Bangar in his stint as the team's batting coach also shouldered the responsibility of the team's assistant coach. With Rathour replacing Bangar in the support staff, the position of the assistant coach is likely to be taken up by bowling coach Arun, who has been hailed for his creditable role in improving the Indian bowling attack.
With the MSK Prasad-led selection panel deciding not to renew Bangar’s contract with the team, Arun becomes the most-sought after choice to take up the position of the assistant coach of the team.
According to a report, Arun, who has earned positive reviews for the work he has done with the Indian bowling attack, is likely to get promoted as the assistant coach of the team and take forward the work done by Bangar previously.
With the promotion comes a better remuneration package, however, the final contract will be decided after the BCCI CEO Rahul Johri comes back to India. Arun will continue with his role as the bowling coach and the post of the assistant coach will be an added responsibility just like in the case of Bangar.
After their semifinal exit in the 2019 ICC World Cup in England, the Indian cricket team made the perfect start to their ICC World Test Championship campaign after handing a crushing 318-run defeat to the West Indies side in the ODI and T20I series.
