The English skipper Ben Stokes stated that Chris Woakes is one the most consistent players of his team after an empathic victory in the third Ashes Test at Headingley in Leeds.  Playing his first red ball game since last year March, Woakes scalped six wickets in the game and also played a 32-run cameo in the second innings, helping England win the game by three wickets and kept the series alive at 2-1.

“I didn’t realise that Woakes hasn’t played a Test for so long, he is Mr. Consistent. Having someone who can bat like him batting at 8 helps us. Hope he can do something similar when he plays next,” Stokes said after the game.

Stokes also talked about Mark Wood who won the Player of the Match award and said it’s amazing to have someone who can clock 95 mph consistently.

“Having someone who can bowl at 95 mph is amazing. With the bat, he is just a free spirit. Goes back to the clarity. 24 off 8 balls was a massive swing in the game. Doesn’t always come off, but gives you a better chance to succeed.”

Before coming to play this Test match, the English side came up with three changes as they roped in Chris Woakes, Wood, and Moeen Ali.

“We had Woody and Woakesy back in and they did well. We picked teams and look how they can impact us in the game. We try to see how they can be influential in the game,” Stokes said.

Talking about the game, England kept their hopes alive by winning the third Test match at Headingley, Leeds by 3 wickets. After going down by 0-2 in the series, this win will give a lot of confidence to the English side.
