Following this success, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly reaffirmed its trust in him, backing him to lead the Indian team in the five-match Test series against England, starting from June 20 onwards.

Speculation had been rife about Rohit Sharma's future as Test captain after India's back-to-back series defeats against New Zealand and Australia.
Many believed a change in leadership was imminent. However, his recent triumph in Champions Trophy 2025 appears to have solidified his position, with both the BCCI and the selection committee standing behind him.
According to The Indian Express, the board sees Rohit as the ideal choice to lead India against England. A source stated, "He has demonstrated his ability to lead the team, and there is confidence in his captaincy. Rohit has also expressed his desire to continue playing Test cricket."
Sydney Test absence sparked speculation
Questions regarding Rohit Sharma's future as Test captain intensified when he opted out of the fifth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series. Reports suggested that selectors were exploring alternative leadership options.
However, Rohit had previously made it clear that he had no intentions of retiring from Test cricket. He explained that stepping away from the final Australia Test was a personal decision, influenced by his form at the time rather than any long-term plans to quit the format.
