India's run-machine Virat Kohli became the fastest to score 13,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He achieved the feat during India's Asia Cup 2023, Super Fours encounter against Pakistan, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday (September 11). The right-handed batter reached to the milestone in his 278th ODI in what happens to be his 267th innings in this format.
While the match was scheduled to take place on September 10, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) kept a reserve day in provision for this match and as it turned out, the match did seep into the reserve day with rain making only 24.1 overs of play possible on the first day. Talking about India's innings, it was a sensational batting performance from them with each of their top four batters scoring at least a half-century. While Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored half-centuries, Kohli and KL Rahul smashed hundreds.

It was a night where Kohli broke several records. Other than becoming the fastest batter to score 13,000 ODI runs, he also got to his 47th ODI ton and he now stands two behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 49 centuries in this format of the game. Kohli also broke Tendulkar's century record against Pakistan.
On the other hand, Rahul scored his 6th ODI ton. It was a special knock as it was a hundred on comeback, an opportunity that he got as a result of a last minute injury to Shreyas Iyer. Rahul held on to that opportunity with both hands and got to the three figures mark with some stylish strokes. While Rahul's 111* included 12 fours and two sixes, Kohli's 122* was studded with 9 fours and 2 sixes, including a maximum off the final ball of the innings as India finished with a massive 356/2 on the reserve day of this match.
