Harbhajan Singh, the veteran Indian off-spinner, was left surprised after the BCCI announced a 16-member squad for Asia Cup. The board decided to rest Virat Kohli for the crucial tournament and gave Rohit Sharma the responsibility to lead the side. However, Harbhajan’s concern was something else.
The 38-year-old cricketer raised his voice on the negligence of batsman Mayank Agarwal. Despite scoring ample of runs in the domestic circuit, the young Indian batsman is yet to find a spot in the Indian dressing room. On the other hand, 20-year-old Rajasthan speedster Khaleel Ahmed has received maiden ODI call who has a ‘not-so-rich’ career in the domestic cricket.
Agitated on not considering Mayank yet again, Bhajji took to his official Twitter handle to ask “Where is Mayank” in the squad?
Here’s the post:
The young Indian batsman has been continuously ignored by the Indian selectors but it’s tough to overlook his batting stats.
Mayank had scored over 2000 runs in the previous Ranji Trophy season and followed his good form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Later, he went on to score a double hundred against South Africa A in a four-day game and then scored a ton in the Quadrangular series.
Consolatory words form the chief selector
Chief Indian selector MSK Prasad has assured that the doors of Indian Cricket Team will soon be opened for Mayank Agarwal. He said,
“Mayank Agarwal has been fantastic and has been consistent in the last 10-12 months. He is just a step away and I am sure in due course of time he will get his recognition.”
“And he did well In all three formats in whatever opportunities he has got in domestic cricket. We will definitely look at it when we rest some of the senior players,” Prasad assured.
